Students rallied together along with WE Schools educator Teresa
Tagarelli to collect over 200 pairs of socks for the homeless during the month of
October for Socktober. They all sported their favourite silly socks around the school
as a reminder for others to bring in their new pairs to donate.
In addition, students collected non-perishable food items for the Barrie Food Bank
through WE Scare Hunger, and were thrilled to collect enough cans to fill 8 garbage
bins full! Saint Marguerite d’Youville has been a dedicated supporter of WE
Villages, empowering communities in Ecuador over the years and now planning to
hold bake sales and freezie sales in support of projects in India.
The WE Schools group is also deeply interested in learning more firsthand about
First Nations communities in their area and spreading awareness about
Indigenous rights and perspectives with their school population and community.
Students (and parents) were so moved by challenges faced on their nearby First
Nations reserve that they worked hard to collect hats and mitts that were delivered
in support of the community. Click to view
